The Road Not Taken…

fork in the wood

Ok – Another way of saying a bit of what i’m TRYING, so poorly it seems, to make ‘clear’ here (and about Me)…

Robert Frost (US Poet 1874 – 1963) Wrote ‘The Road Not Taken’, which in part, declares about a person’s ‘journey’ the following:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Which road would you choose? The clear, well-worn one of so many others?

Or the dark, creepy, spooky looking one with the ‘Keep Out’ sign, Skull and Bones, where Angels have clearly, dared not to tread?

The High Road or the low one?

This was in part the inspiration for M Scott Pecks work, ‘The Road Less Travelled’ and for anyone who still is unclear of where i am coming from this MAY give you another way of looking at it, me, and a whole lot else besides…

I recommmend you read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._Scott_Peck#The_Road_Less_Traveled

Then ask any questions you feel necessary for clarification.

Some can’t see the Wood for the Trees … or the Beams.

WE all have our own roads to travel. I’ve already walked three or four myself 🙂

  1. I appreciate that you are trying to clarify yourself, but this is relativism. With this outlook you have no way to ever say that anything that anybody does is wrong, no matter how horrible.

I have said something like it before, but how can one see trees if only the one sees the trees? Or the beams?

If we all have our own roads to travel, in the way I think you mean it, then why are you telling me?

  2. Pondering the road not taken is a futile exercise. The road taken is just that, you can’t change it (barring time travel) so why bother with it.

Personally, I like trees and a stroll through the woods is as good a way as any to clear the mind.

The road less travelled was what i was actually pondering the title was a trick! 😉

It is worthy of consideration though when we realise, if we EVER do, That we may have just taken a wrong turn by following everyone else a little too closely down clearly well-WORN OUT paths and have missed a truly magical mystical pathway to who can say where in the process 🙂

  7. Robert! ( what a wonderful name that is!) Missed you guy where ya bin?

The beams i was referring to were not red laser ones although i can see now why that has some appeal!

It is from a bible verse (surprise surprise!):

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

But, love, you tell people that they are wrong, or getting it wrong, all the time. If you really believed this you wouldn’t even think that I might be getting “warped”. There would be no such thing if you actually believed this.

  10. Hey J – I mostly tell people they get ME ‘wrong’ – cos they so very frequently do and take remarkably little time actually figuring out WHY i said what i said could ACTALLY be ‘true’ in their world as well as mine! Is so much easier and faster to just make something up (about me ALL of who i am to them) that fits their world view and wait for the rebuttal.

I REALLY believe people are getting me, and more importantly ‘it’ (God and other related ‘themes’) wrong.

I DO believe that God IS ( ALL )

    many dont.

Some even don’t believe in Him at all 😦

How ‘wrong’ is that? in Your opinion? 🙂

And as for ‘yees but if you believe what you say then how can ANYTHING actually BE wrong as you so often try to claim’???

    Well… i am a complex being! 😉

Internally ‘consistent’ – if not quite yet ‘complete’ in all aspects.

It’s only when i try to EXPRESS it i have communication difficulties at times – Debs knows how i feel, I am certain..

  12. Afternoon all. Contemplating a path not taken is inherently futile. The “could’ve beens” of life aren’t beneficial because you end up wishing your life away. I see though that you were talking about choosing the path that you take rather than wishing that you’d taken a different one.

Wouldn’t you say that each of us takes our own path and can never walk along someone else’s? Even following another means that we have made a decision to follow or perhaps made a decision not to choose a different path.

Sometimes I like to just stop and look at the trees. Other times I’m bulldozing them to build a road.

I think this is kind of your point but isn’t one of the main tools with which one determines a path information which has been extracted from from could’ve been’s?

    Like

  14. Indeed. When choosing a path you must draw upon your experiences. Dwelling on failures or lost opportunities doesn’t help though except to teach you how to do something different next time.

    Never ‘dwell’ – but consider!

So what you really said in this sentence completely (almost) negates what you said in this one??

“Contemplating a path not taken is inherently futile”

interesting… – maybe i missed something you said? or did’nt say clearly to me?

” Wouldn’t you say that each of us takes our own path and can never walk along someone else’s? Even following another means that we have made a decision to follow or perhaps made a decision not to choose a different path. ”

I would NOW and as recently as yesterday after my ego was reduced a little … but you have already said it well enough here – so i won’t bother duplicating it any more than to quote your wisdom in THIS subject 🙂

Thanks for hopping by again – please hop back and we can hopfully learn more of the other.

  17. J/bso – So glad you ‘stayed’ even if only for the ‘car crash’ that i suspect you may feel is inevitably coming my way??

    Mesmerisin ain’t it?? 😉

Wishing your life away IS futile and of NO value to anyone/thing. I do NOT recommend ANYONE do such.

Acting solely on the basis of past experience is not always wise – what do we do in ‘new’ situations that we have no experience in? That is NOT to say we should abandon entirely what we have experienced and ‘know’ well to our ‘advantage’!

I am in agreement with you over the wisdom in ‘considering’ all possible alternative routes (roads not taken) so as to make some attempt to ‘predict’ likely favourable to us and to all outcomes by giving us a wider ‘perspective’ than mere personal experience can fully ‘allow’ for – even if man’s predicttive skill is somewhat sadly lacking at times, as history clearly shows in retrospect (Ahh Hindsight! – if only we could live our lives ‘backwards’ – how intelligent would we then be?! 🙂

But wishing your life was backwards is almost as futile as wishing it were the way you wanted it to be forwards. Wishes usually come a poor ‘second’ to ‘reality’ that we are consistantly being ‘faced’ with/up against in the here and now.

WE all need to deal with ‘reality’ here, huh?

    Getting me/God ‘wrong’???

By hearing FIRSTLY my ego’s ‘voice’ with your ego’s ears – and not hearing God speak from within me to Him within you.
Tell me you have not been at least part huilty of same?

Listen WELL brother – listen to HIM within me not the me ( most definitely LOWER-case) within me!

And do you see me as full of my own ego? With your eyes full of the same?

Or do you SEE me with God’s eyes within you and SEE me for who is at my Core?

Do you see the i am? or the I AM?

And who is doing the ‘looking out’?

Your i am (right) or your IAM (All)

i am learning to Live the diference. Have you already done the same?

Or do you as yet STILL have not the remotest clue what i am talking about here?

E-mail me if you have time/Desire – ok?

We all have our paths to bear – if you’ll pardon the paraphrase?

YES! i do have an irreligious sense of Humour if any of you had not previously picked that up!

  19. Growing up in a less than desirable home faced with daily uncertainty, abuse, neglect, harm and fear – I knew early on that that would be a road I would choose not to travel.

Fast forward into my young adult years I made some very, very poor choices in my road “less” traveled and still managed to screw things up….

Fast forward, yet again, to a revelation that I am in no way bound to my past failures, experiences or mistakes. They had as much power and grip over me as I allowed. So I chose then not to live in the past any longer and to look forward to a future with a hope…although uncharted I set out on this new path with wisdom from experience and a broader knowledge and awareness.

This is my 1.8 cents worth to this post and very quickly written and sent off!

    Love to you all!

  20. I LOVE Tammy ‘cos she REALLY knows how to ‘bring it home’. 🙂

Our ‘parents’ on earth influence us greatly in our youth and to a large part ‘determine’ the path we are to walk down.

Some, like mine – were full of love (though by no means immune to error) Some as seems to be the case with Tam – had ‘issues’ that created around them a less than loving, gentle and ‘safe’ environment.

YET BOTH Tam’s and My Parent’s were just as ‘responsible for ‘determining our respective paths. While there are certainly many individual differences between Tam’s past and my own – it is the one similarity we both share that is the most important thing we can now , more’ freely’ (away from ‘restrictive’ parental influences at least) ‘choose’ for our Selves, as opposed to having it ‘forced’ upon us (either from love or from hate and all in between) by ou earth parents.

Many are by no means yet ‘free’ as was Our Lord Jesus to Chooose for Himself between the earth-bound things and the Way of/back to His Father’s bosom.

May you walk your path in Peace and without anxiety for an anxious Heart knows not God.

Peace and God’s Joy to all.

  22. Morning Sweet…Tam is a very strong person, her and I have a very similiar background, and I feed off of her strength…She makes me smile when noone else can and has taught me to laugh at myself when I want to beat myself up. I say all of that to say that the way she put her life I say ditto. The only time I look back is when it’s time to use what the Lord has brought me through to help and minister to someone else, which by the way is the only reason He allowed it in the first place. We like to even give ourselves credit for our bad choices, so self-centered at times. The truth is, our Lord knew these things before we were created and allowed them for the sole purpose of strengthening us to do His will and Glorify Him. I no longer carry shame, or guilt, I tend to see myself and other believers now as redeemed. I have and will continue to make bad choices, to say anything else would be a lie, yet I know, whatever I go through, He will be faithful in turning it around for His glory and my service. It always has to be about Him…..Love you love…I’m driving home now, Cyber Hugs

Am happy that you have ‘certainty’ in yourself of who God is and hope that you never make the choice to believe otherwise or ever think ‘less’ of ALL that He is and can ever be. Or choose to walk away from Him because you feel let down by your own understanding of Him – or that He did not ‘appear’ to live up to your (or those you Trusted for guidance in certain matters) opinions of what you thought Him once to be, but was actually ‘not’ (in your older ‘wiser’ eyes).

I say that, not because i fear you ever might, but because CLEARLY (Toni eg) that is what MANY actually Do! Have a representation of God that is LESS than He IS and get disillusioned when the inevitable occurs and the ‘perception’ varies to their ‘current’ perceived reality as they grow, mature and meet some very ‘conflicting’ experiences. (Loving God who ‘fails me’ in my hour of need as JC so nearly succumbed to on the cross – if He can come that close, perfected as He was, how much easier for those of us without His Faith to turn our faces from Him – NEVER the other way around?

That is MY belief – current access to/knowledge of Scripture not withstanding – just yet 🙂
