Do We REALLY Need To Play a Musical Instrument??

Starnge Question given all the joy those who can play one and play it well can bring us – Right?

Well in the last 24 hours i have seen two things that cause me to seriously ask that question.

You are free to form your own opinion.

Number One was courtesy of my Good Friend in Blogland, EdfromCt – the truly terrible RTO. (Click on Ed’s link and scroll down to the video).

Number Two was this:

i suppose if you want to hog all the glory for yourself, or you can’t find 8 people who want to do like you do then a musical instrument is a second option? 😉

Bringing Creation and Evolution Closer Together

supernova_sn2006gyScience says the Universe began with a Big Bang over 13 billion years ago.

Creationists say the Universe began with a movement of God’s Spirit some 6000 years ago.

Few would say there is ANY similarity in those views.

The Problem with the current scientific understanding of what has happened immediately since the moment of the Big Bang is that, before it, there was actually NO time. No Space. No ‘Anything’ or as Genesis puts it – The ‘Void’ before it actually occurred. An infinite nothingness of notime and nospace

Science can only ‘deal’ with evidence that exists in the form of matter, energy and a time function that is able to be measured. For anything ‘other’ than these science is incapable of dealing with – whereas Religion is not. (and neither is ‘God’)

God is largely to do with the concept of ‘spirit’. Spirit is an ‘opposite’ to matter and is not exactly a form of energy (which can be converted into matter and vice versa) as we know it.

In Genesis the only thing that exists ‘in the beginning’ is the Void (Darkness – absence of light) also known as the Deep or ‘the Waters’ (a fluid-like ‘circumstance’ of chaotic non-existence as we in our material Universe might understand it) AND God’s Spirit.

Since Science cannot detect or prove (or disprove) the existence of God’s Spirit it just ignores it and says that ‘in the beginning’ there was only ‘nothing’ (that we can currently identify, not even time or space).

I had a think on the subject last night in bed and came up with a simplified ‘explanation’ of the difference between Scientific Atheism and Biblical Creationism in terms of the uniting ‘overall view’ of what is going on.

The ‘simplified’ version is this.

Imagine an Aussie coin. ( the coins in your location are unlikely to be significantly different) Hold it up so it can be observed. The ‘Headers’ say that according to their observations the coin is round and made of metal and is made with an image of a Female head and some writing that describes it’s country of origin, the head and it’s time of creation – clearly there is no animalistic feature and nothing to say it has any different intrinsic value to any other type of coin.

The ‘Tailers’ say that according to THEIR observations the coin is round and made of metal and is made with the image of an animal and has some writing that determines the numerical value of the unit of currency it represents – clearly there is no humanity about this coin and nothing to say when it was first created.

What is happening here is two separate groups are making separate observations of the ‘same’ thing from a distance and each group’s perspective is exactly 180 degrees apart – polar opposites to the other group’s observations.

Headers have ‘evidence’ of the time of creation of the coin while Tailers understand that the coin has a value dependent upon its size and it’s numeric imprint – neither group is able to see the truth of the other side’s evidence – yet both are correct while they disagree strongly with each other on what they are looking at. (Although there ARE a number of similarities in their observations)

This is a very simplified version of what has happened with Evolution/Creationism.

Both are looking at the same thing from very remote and opposite viewpoints. Both are quite correct in terms of their observations. Both share a number of similar observations but with their own ‘understandings’ as a result.

Creationists are looking back to a point some 6000 years before they exist and from the viewpoint of ‘evidence’ (the Bible) that is some 2500+years older than they are. Naturally their thoughts are going to be different to those of Scientists using tools (scientific ‘method’) that have only been developed over 500 or less years looking at ‘evidence’ (some of which is experimental, but most observed and estimations drawn from conclusions of what is observed) of an event that is thought to have taken place some 13.4 billion years ago.

Given these vastly differing understandings i find it quite amazing that there is so little basic difference between the two views of how the Universe actually began.

The Life of a Cat (This Is Good)

I like seeing things from different perspectives and this one is a doozy – i give you…

Day 283 Of My Captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another house plant.

Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded; must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair; must try this on their bed.

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm, not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the food. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of “allergies.” Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The bird on the other hand has got to be an informant, and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time…

A Quick Little Ditty

I have a confession:

i’m not ‘into’ hessian,

and a brown paper bag

is a bit of a drag.

What i find fantastic

is a bag made from plastic

When i do my chores,

bringing food from the stores;

the best things in life are for free. 🙂

(Footnote: the views expressed in the above poem are not necessarily those of the Author! It was fun and seemed to write itself though).

One of my Favourite News Headlines…

Rescue Services Have Recovered 412 Bodies and Counting.

Blast From The Past.

Ever hear a snippet of a song and instantly you’re transported to a time long gone and memories of another time flash by in rapid succession and you are suddenly yearning for a part of your youth that has gone for good? ( And probably also for the better!)

I just did. My memories were of the Seventies and Denim and Disco and Slacks with huge flares.

And Trilby hats and white blouses apparently?

This song used to be one of my all-time favourites… all i can say is it was NOT due to the technical quality of the clip or demonstrated talent and ability to perform in a film clip by the Singers (Kit Hain and Julien Marshall).

I also find it more than passing strange that a clip of a song about dancing, running down alleyways and Fun should contain absolutely none of these things???

From 1978 – Dancing in the City.

Jigsaw Pieces

I’ve ‘done’ my fair share of Jigsaws in my time.

At the start there is a jumbled mass of weird shapes that seem to make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

But we ‘know’ intuitively, or from past experiences, or the words of others whom we trust, that this jumble can actually be ‘sorted’ and something beautiful may be revealed from within this mass of mess and seeming chaos.

Perhaps something resembling the picture on the outside of the box? 😉

And if we are so inclined we begin to ‘sort’ this jumble into something we can understand that makes ‘sense’ to us.

Some people will firstly sift through the chaos and detect that there are some things that some pieces have in ‘common’ – and ‘separate’ things which share a common ‘theme’. Some will select those pieces with a single ‘straight’ edge ( or two) thinking these pieces can form the ‘frame’ within which all other pieces have to fit.

Some may sort the pieces into similar colours (and name them ‘sky’, ‘grass’ or ‘sea’, etc.) And some will sort pieces into similar shapes, if there are significantly differing ones.

Some will look for an ‘obvious’ image from the picture and seek out the parts that likely make it up and put them together first, Some will make the frame first and some may do something else.

It does not matter what ‘order’ you chose – as long as the final outcome is obtained. – The ‘Finished Picture’.

There are times i feel like the thing i call ‘Life’ is a giant jigsaw puzzle and sometimes a couple of pieces come together in ways i never expected and make me think there are ‘connections to all things’ that i never saw until ‘today’. That unlike a ‘regular’ jigsaw, there are actually many ‘layers’ to the Jigsaw of Life and they interlink not only ‘sideways’ but up and own in 3 dimensions as well.

In ways that can truly boggle my tiny finite and limited mind.

One of the most persistent ways i ‘notice’ pieces is in the interconnection between some words (created from an ‘Alphabet’ – that ours has a deal in common with other languages from our past) and in our numbering system that seemingly has nothing to do with the Alphabet at first glance – or some inspection for that matter 🙂

I am often amazed at the way these two ‘jigsaws’ intersect.

Latest ‘example’: ( i was thinking a lot about Genesis and Adam and Eve and connected things)

Adam was the First man according to Genesis. The first man God ‘created’ from the earth. One Man, man Number One. (1)

Eve was actually made by God from Adam – from a part of Adam (Rib)-  God’s Second Creation of ‘man’, from the First man and thus was actually a ‘Second Generation’ of man, not an original Creation like Adam was ( made from the earth) but a creation from  the creature (creation) at the Hand of God.

So Eve was ‘Man’ Number Two, but created ‘fe-male’ ( from male?)

Adam is One Man (Odd number – Odd most frequently represents  ‘God’ (seen as Male) and ‘perfect’ 1, 3, 7, etc)

Eve is Two Man ( t’wo-man) ( an EVE-nnumber? – 2, 4, 6, 8, etc)

ADD Man (1) to Woman (2) and you will always get an ODD number (1+2= 3) – Man (odd) starts again.

If we are Single-minded (One having Superiority) we will either follow God – or follow our own mind/choices.

If we are Double (Eve-n, Equally superior to each other) minded we will be struggling between two opposing choices (Good/Evil) – God’s Will or our own

According to the Bible God has made man to have TWO ‘body’s’, one Physical and One Spiritual. If the Spiritual one is ‘Graced’ by the Holy Spirit (God) and brought back to ‘full’ life then we are to have it as our ‘Single’ (superior) mind at all times and so do God’s Will rather than rebel against His wishes.

If our Spiritual Body has not been ‘quickened’ by the Holy Spirit our body has been said to be ‘dead’ and it is believed it was this body that was Present and alive in Adam and in Eve that ‘died’ when they ate of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Some insist that because we are the descendants of Adam and Eve and not directly of God that we are also dead in Spirit – even though it is also believed we have a human ‘spirit’ (can any human create the spirit?) – unless and until the Holy Ghost is ‘received’ within us by reason of us making the conscious choice by our physical mind to ‘accept’ Christ as our personal Saviour.

At which point we are ‘given’ a New Body (while still having our old physical one that will still die the same as anyone else, only we will have been given the power to take it with us to heaven? or to the new earth? – it can get a little confusing when you try to nail it down sometimes.

So ‘pre-Christ’ we have a live physical body and a dead Spiritual one, but have our ‘own’ spirit. Then once we ‘accept’ Christ we have a NEW body, are made New? and then have a physical body and a living Spiritual Body (and our ‘own’ spirit still? or does that ‘die’ to us?)

But according to Paul in Galatians the Spirit and the Flesh are in opposition one to the other and we have to choose to walk in the Spirit than in the flesh. He seems to say this is possible while the flesh lives but that the flesh is crucified if we are Christ’s. (Gal Ch 5)

Piece by piece the various layers of this jigsaw come together.
