Welcome to Day 7 of Poppy Week!
Today I thought i’d show some of the more unusual shots of poppies from my garden, before finishing with another beautiful variation of my red Papaver rhoeas poppies. And since i’ve barely touched the surface of my photo collection from this year i’m going to extend my Poppy week by one more day tomorrow! 🙂

This is a somewhat fore-shortened shot of the larger of my dozen or so poppy patches. it contains around 50 individual plants each of which produce between 1 to 6 flowers. This one patch has produced both large and small poppies; poppies with a cross and poppies without any cross; plain red and red with a white fringe; the reverse of those – red poppies with white in the centre and with golden stamen; half red/half white poppies; white/purple and white/orange poppies; pure white poppies; poppies with just 4 petals and poppies with over 2 dozen petals (I’m showing some multi-petalled poppies tomorrow! 🙂
The bright red poppy petals in this patch make a glorious contrast against Perth’s bright blue skies and it’s white Spring clouds 🙂
.
One of my peach and white poppies dissected and a typical large red poppy petal for a colour comparison. 🙂
.
This remembrance poppy was left to dry for a couple of days.
The petals on this tangerine coloured beauty are semi-translucent letting the green from the leaves in the background add a subtle contrast at it’s centre. 🙂
.
All photos are the actual shading with the only editing done being close cropping for sharper definition.
.
More variations in Day 8 tomorrow. 🙂

I still keep thinking, “Poppies. Poppies to put them to sleep…”

They’re beautiful — I particularly like the second shot, and the deconstructed petals! Thanks for the poppy-field shots!

Informative post and lovely shots. Nothing quite beats seeing a bed of them in person.

So true!
One thing i have found with mine though is that if you look at them as a group you might think they are all so very similar, but when you get up close it is amazing the variations you could have missed.
Today i am showing some poppies that, at a glance, you would say were all the ‘same’ flower. See what you think? 🙂

A deconstructions of poppies – fascinating. They don’t look so delicate as a red.

Nope, the Reds are very ‘robust’ – bursting with confidence and full of life. 🙂
