FOTD – September 30 – Poppy Week! – Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of Poppy Week!

Yesterday showcased the subtle variations in my red remembrance poppies, mostly to the cross or absence of it, on the plain red petals as in this example:

(Click on image to open in a new window and click again to expand)lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-1The ‘Classic’ pure red poppy of remembrance, but with just a hint of the variation in colour of the petals from the usual bright red of the large outer petals.

lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-5The red is fading just a little more, but the biggest change is to the stamen, from the previous black to semi-transparent white with golden anthers.

lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-2Now, not only are the stamen white, but the centre of the ‘bowl’ and the ‘clock’ as well. 🙂

lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-3This one has become more pale, and slightly orange, and the white colouring on each petal is growing. 🙂

lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-4This small poppy has mixed white and red to become pink!
lovewillbringustogether - Poppies day 2-6

This piece of peach perfection has semi-translucent petals that overlap to produce deeper shades of peach pink. It almost appears to be illuminated from below.

All photos are the actual shading with the only editing done being close cropping for sharper definition.

More in Day 3 tomorrow. 🙂

Cee’s Flower of the Day – September 30, 2019 – Dahlia

    • My first one appeared in August and they are about ‘at peak’ now. Hopefully until sometime in November, but the fall off really quickly as the ground dries out from our Winter rainfall.

Given that we just had our warmest and driest September in 42 years they may not last as long as i’d normally expect?
