Flower of the Day – December 20 – Pink Bower Vine (Pandorea jasminoides)

Sometimes also known as the Bower of Beauty this beautiful and delicate flower is misleading – it is as tough as they come, at least in regards to the heat and dry conditions. It does not like the cold so much and who could blame it for that? Fortunately, where i live, it never gets all that cold. 🙂

It is a member of the Bignoniacaea family and not as the name might indicate the jasmines which belong to the Oleacaea. With little to no care on my part, but for the occasional watering and keeping ‘in check’ by cutting off excess growth, this vine covers a patch of my fence with these beautiful flowers for most months of the year. 🙂
