One of the special joys of my life lately is watching the local avian population as they perform their antics and aerobatics in and around (and above) my birdbath.
Recently i had the delight to catch these New Holland Honeyeaters enjoying a typically sunny, warm day ‘down at the pool’.
(Click on a pic to open in a new window and click again for full detail 🙂 )It can get a little crowded at times – like all pools! 🙂
“It’s too busy – I’m off”! 🙂
Wondering what just happened?
Now is that 7 birds in one frame?… or 7 frames of one bird?? 🙂
(R to L: In, Under, Out, Shimmy, Shake, Reflect, Race round to the start to do it again!)
Part 2 of At The Pool to follow…
love.
Wonderful

Considering they NEVER stay still… i was pretty pleased the way things turned out. More tomorrow, and i saved the best till last. 😉

Yup, one of a larger family of birds called Honeyeaters (although they also feed on insects) they have a long beak and furry tipped tongue for extracting nectar from our plants!
They are exclusively native to South of the Equator mostly Australasia.
They are such fun to watch! 🙂

Great splashing! I love how they sit in the sun after the bath, carefully folding and unfolding wings until everything is dry.

It’s been a REALLY popular spot for a whole range of birds lately!
(Not, i suspect, unlike your feeder. One difference being i have the odd UNwanted cat!! – while you get a greedy squirrel or two.) 🙂
