FOTD – September 25 – Statice (Limonium perezii)

A very unusual flower in that the actual flower of this variety is white, yet it is known for it’s beautiful bluey-purple colour! The blue hue comes from the calyx or papery outer shell that the flowers extend out from and which are left behind for a while after the flower drops.

Also sometimes known as sea lavender it can come in a variety of colours such as rose and yellow! 🙂
