FOTD – June 5 – Neon Pink Cactus Flower.

Previously described as being one of the Epiphyllum family of cacti only to be changed in 1890 to be named in the Zygocactus genus (Z. truncata) it was then renamed yet again in 1953 as Schlumbergera truncata (I love the sound of the name Schlumbergera!). This Neon Pink Schlumbergera is commonly known as the Christmas Cactus, although here in Australia it flowers in June/July! 🙂

lovewillbringustogether -Zygocactus1The yet-to-open buds at the top of photo are dwarfed by the size of the fully extended flower. The slats of wood are 75mm (3 inches) wide!
