Welcome to Day Five of my Bird Week, initiated as a result of a close encounter of the unexpected kind! – with this beautiful Australian Pelican (and his other friends)!
(Click on a pic to open in a new window and click again for full detail 🙂 ) I don’t think he is ever likely to be in the chorus line of the Moulin Rouge but it did look a little like he might be limbering up for a Can-can as he strutted about on the bank of the lake. 😉 Or could it be the Hokie Cokie??
I like the cut of his jib! 🙂
‘Phillip’ takes some time out for a little preening – he has some pretty impressive equipment for the job. 🙂
More to come… Day Six. 🙂

They are… and i’ve seen my fair share close to our beaches and our river estuary’s. I even hand fed a wild one once!
But imagine finding a guy like this swimming fifty yards away from you on your local stream and you can imagine how i felt finding this one where i did. Was completely unexpected. 🙂

I wonder what he thought seeing you 50 yards away.

I’ve said it before — they are the most majestic birds! And Bill is pretty magnificent too!
