My bougainvillea are producing an abundance of dense bright colour at the moment with thousands of triple bract flowers on two plants that are each 3 metres (10 ft) tall.

Beautiful. I love being surrounded by them when we visit Jamaica.

Just don’t get too close… their spines can be vicious!! 😉

Hmmm…I think I do recall that, but somehow it slipped my mind in all the beauty that disguises the spines.

I can well understand that!
Having to prune one that had grown way too big ensured i no longer forget! 😉 (The scars are just about healed by now!)

A flower within a flower. A beauty. I grew up around such flowers. I don’t remember there being a flower from within. Must be species thing.

Could be? Both mine will have 1,2 or 3 twisted spiralling tubes growing from the middle of each 3 grouped coloured brackts that then open out as the cream coloured flowerettes. 🙂
I think the heat helps?

Regardless, it does make for a really beautifull flower.

Lovely closeups! It’s rather enchanting to stare from afar.

Thank you Sa! I love to show the fine details of plants we usually only see distantly. 🙂

I think this is why I enjoy the close-ups that are featured in nature documentaries. The plant world feels more magnificent. Micro photography is interesting too.

Wonderful shots. I have both of these colors..Do your pink ones turn from orange to pink in full sun as mine do
? I love the orange stage.

Definitely, all new bracts on mine start orange.
Don’t think the purple ones change shade tho’? Hmmm…

Nope.. I’ve only seen the change in the orange/pink ones and when there isn’t much light, they stay orange! I was in a rain forest with lots of shade so sometimes they’d stay orange most of the year.

Mine gets LOTS of light and the bush looks all pink for most of the year.

This was in the redwood forest of California. Here in Mexico they all turn pink.
