Flower of the Day – January 8 – Franjipanis (Plumeria)

Many people (including myself) know these beautifully perfumed plants as Franjipani but their actual name is Plumeria. They can grow to quite a considerable size in warm sub-tropical/tropical conditions – this one is relatively young but is almost 3 metres (10 ft) tall (making it difficult to photograph!) 🙂

The flowers open out to be mostly a deep pink with red and yellow centres, but fade to a very light pink in the bright sunshine.
