One of the features of Australia, and especially the ‘Outback’ (countryside far away from cities and towns) is it’s magnificent trees, of which Eucalypts are perhaps the most iconic.
Often referred to as ‘Gum Trees’ locally (because of the high sticky resin
content that often squeezes out from their bark) there are numerous genus types and one of the most beautiful are the ‘Ghost Gums’.
This one is native to my part of Oz and is a Darling Range Ghost Gum (Eucalyptus laeliae). It’s not all that old, around 40 years or so but is just about fully matured and stands some 20 m (65ft) high. 🙂

I used to be a big (American) fan of your gum trees. I know tons of facts about them — growth rate, soil requirements, et al — but I’ve never seen one. Nice to actually see a picture!

Pity i did not see it in time for your hallowe’en? 😉 they are quite pretty in a picture, but standing next to a smooth white trunk and looking up at the white branches and olive green leaves against a deep azure blue sky is one of the wonders of nature – imho! 🙂
