Welcome to PTFTD, a (semi-)regular feature on my blog. Each (ideally daily) post I will raise a topic for consideration that may hopefully give you pause for some serious, or not-so-serious contemplation throughout your day/night/week/life.
It’s as much for my personal benefit as anyone else’s who may find it of interest, as we all try to figure out just what life is all about and what on Earth we are all doing here or to each other?
Today’s Thought:
Can our degree of Faith influence actual external circumstances?
Or, to put it another way, does your belief alter what is actually happening around you, or does it alter your perception of what is actually happening around you?Can our mind be used to alter/manipulate matter or events, or does it modify itself so as to give us alternate perceptions of the matter/event.
According to the Bible Jesus quoted,’Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible to you.’ Matt 17:20
Or in Mark 9:23: ‘All things are possible to him that believes.’
That seems to leave little ‘wriggle’ room on the topic – and yet i am not aware of a single small to medium sized hill being moved, even an inch, by one person’s belief alone since those words were written down nearly 2000 years ago.
I can only assume that it is because our current beliefs leave a LOT to be desired in God’s eyes.
Perhaps it is partly because some people believe in this fashion?
Mis-placed Faith Can Be Fatal.
There may be a big difference for most people between believing what you believe in (ie. want you personally want to believe) and believing in the power of God in our lives.
I need to think on this for a while (longer) 🙂
love.
Personally I think my belief changes the way I see (and hear too) things happening around me.

Thanks MZ (Cho?) Personally, i think our core belief can grow as we grow and gain in knowledge, experience and wisdom. I also believe though that there is a founding thread of True Belief that we all must have Faith in that never changes, even if we change over time. We all need something stable, something we can trust to always be there. 🙂

Thank you Derrick – I try! 😉
I tend to have quite a literal mind mostly, which can be somewhat of a problem when i consider the topic of Belief.
That is not to say that i do not believe however, i just question my belief more than is ‘good’ for me. 😉

I have seen over and over again how people’s beliefs do create their external reality. Not their Belief, but their belief. I wish I had greater Belief.

I am noticing this too, more and more. We see what we expect to see as much as what is actually there.
We believe some people are one way that fits our understanding, without understanding them at all. We believe in a God that could not exist while not seeing the One who does.
I do too. 😉

Very thought-provoking. I have never heard of a mountain being moved by faith, either, but I have heard of peoples’ lives being changed by faith. I think faith is not something that can be willed into existence. It’s either there or it’s not. You have it or you don’t. You can’t wish it into being.
Sorry for the ramble! 🙂
