Flower of the Day – November 7 – Rose Lace (Tritonia gladiolaris)

This beautiful plant is commonly known as a Tritonia or a Lined Tritonia, but it is easy to see why some call it Rose Lace.

It is a member of the Iris family and as the scientific name indicates, related to the gladioli and is yet another plant that originated in Southern Africa, but which has bloomed for at least a decade every Spring in a border of my drive and i don’t ever remember setting it?

The mass of little pink flowerettes which surround and compliment the Tritonia are Red Valerian plants. They make a beautiful backdrop I’m sure you would agree. 🙂
