My Poppies are approaching the end of this year’s season, (don’t worry – i have a few weeks worth of saved shots i can post yet!) and what a season it has been. Our wetter than usual Winter seems to have given them a new zest for life and they have excelled in producing yet more new combinations and variegations from their original basic red ‘tulip’ type. (Thanks largely, i think, to cross-breeding through the bees with my ‘wild’ poppys).
Here are two more glorious examples of the variations: Both have ‘semi-petals’, partly formed petals inside of the 4 main petal ‘cup’, but one is the standard red but is a ‘flat’ flower, while the other has developed a white fringe over an orange-red tinge and is the basic 4 petal ‘cup’ shape. 🙂
The drops from a light morning shower only adds to their fresh beauty. 🙂
