Flower of the Day – October 18 – Purple Tassels (Sowerbaea Laxiflora)

So this week i’m dedicating my FOTD to Australian Natives. 🙂

Day 5.  Purple Tassels.

Also known as Vanilla Lily or Rush lily, Purple Tassels has a pleasant vanilla like perfume.

Each stalk has up to 40 individual flowers which, like many Australian flowers has petals that close up together as the sun is setting to help prevent moisture loss. When open these individual flowers have six petals in a hexagonal star formation each with a yellow stamen.
