I’m dedicating this week to my Poppies! 🙂
Day 7.
I’ve been doing a little study to get to know more about my Poppies and noticed that some Opium Poppies (Papaver somniferum) can be a deep shade of Purple/Violet (with Black Crosses but white stamen!) I would not suggest trying to grow any at home though as this is illegal in many places.
To the best of my knowledge (Honest, yer Honour!) my poppies are the Papaver glaucum (Turkish Tulip Poppy)and Papaver Rhoeas type with a few Papaver dubium for good measure, not the Papaver somniferum.
This, however, is the closest i have got yet to a purple one. 🙂

It makes sense that they would be Poppies from Turkey as many Australians make a pilgrimage on April 25th each year to Anzac Cove and Gallipoli in Turkey , the scene of our First military disaster as a separate National fighting force from our British Empire colonial days. Inevitably some seeds and flowers make it back home despite very strict quarantine laws. 😉
