Flower of the Day – September 21 – Lampranthus explanatus

Today a flower that is quite rare – so rare apparently that it does not even have a ‘common’ name just the Latin one.

Although not a common name it is perfectly descriptive none-the-less: lampranthus means ‘shining flower’ and explanatus can mean ‘flattened out’.

When seen in the Spring sunshine they are just flat out, shining flowers!
