This bright-eyed little fella is amusingly known as a Laughing Dove – supposedly for it’s chuckling call. I’ve known them for at least 30 years and have never thought of their cooing as a chuckle, but hey? 🙂
More common to Africa and India the Laughing Dove has established itself very comfortably in the suburbs and countryside surrounding my home of Perth in Western Australia.
Unlike almost all the other birds that visit my garden these guys will drink from my birdbath but won’t take the plunge! They prefer a dry dirt or sand bath to a wet one.

love.
The coloring on this lovely bird is unusual. Did you use a telephoto lens to get so close?

It certainly is a rare colour combination, probably a good approximation of the sandy, arid, sparsely vegetated areas it populates! 🙂
Telephoto? Not exactly – i shot him with a Nikon Coolpix B700 – a dslr lookalike but without interchangeable lenses. This photo had a zoom equivalent for a 35 mm camera of 900mm giving around 25 times magnification. The camera goes a lot higher than that 😉

Glad you like her! She’s one of two pairs that frequent my garden daily. 🙂 It always brings a smile to my face to see them bobbing along together (usually with the male trying to get closer to the female and her having none of it! ) 😉
