Flower of the Day – December 6, 2017 – Golden Lantana.

I’ve had these flowers for years but only just found out they are a relative of the verbenas i’ve been posting the last few months! Besides this gorgeous Gold i have them in Hot Pinky-purple and Orange/Yellow also.

The lantana is classified as a restricted invasive plant/pest here in Australia yet you can buy it at garden nurseries and there are many plants around my suburb and have been for decades as they are bright and colourful , quick growing, very heat resistant and nearly impossible to kill – even if you don’t have a green thumb! 🙂

Unlike their smaller cousins the verbena, these plants will grow into huge bushes or even thickets if left untended. They throw out long tendrils loaded with small flower clumps like these to a length of up to 3-4 metres (around 12 ft)!

If you look real close you can see the remnant raindrops of the 12 hours of rain this one was drenched with overnight.
