This will be Poppy Week here on Lovewillbringustogether’s Weblog. 🙂
My self seeding poppies have been caught out a little by this year’s crazy weather, popping up their first shoots way too early before Winter arrived. They waited patiently through a short Winter before beginning to shoot skywards and came out in a profusion of beautiful blooms last week when i was able to capture some nice shots before the recent revival of Winter has made them look a little bedraggled and sorry for themselves. Fortunately the showers have not put off the bees who make the poppy patch sound almost like an aerodrome! 🙂
If you look carefully you can see a white ‘cross’ formed around the centre Stamen on the petals. I like to think the cross (normally black) is one of the reasons the remembrance poppy, worn in commemoration of all those who died in WW1, got it’s name.
Lest We Forget.
