Flower of the Day – May 21, 2017 – Banksia

This is a Banksia in flower taken as a regular ‘viewed from above’ shot.

But you would rarely view a Banksia flower from above as most grow in trees 10-30 feet high (There are a wide variety of them however, some are more like ground cover or low bushes. They come in many colours and even combinations.)

This is the same flower but in it’s more ‘usual’ appearance – the side on view.

All Banksias have the spiky leaf which are quite hard, brittle even, and are not as dangerous as they look 🙂 They make excellent long-lasting cut flowers, but as they are native wildflowers you need a licence to harvest them – strictly no stealing some! Ok?
