Cee’s Flower of the Day – May 5, 2017 – Rhododendron Buds
People are probably most familiar with Lavender as being an essential oil or a fragrance in disinfectant or soaps, but the lavender bush is a pretty ornamental plant with silvery-green leaves and lilac/purple flowers that bees just love!
The bee in the photograph has wings but as they beat 12000 times per minute (3-5 times faster than a hummingbird!) they don’t show up well in most photos while they are flying. He also has some buds of pollen stuck to his leg. 🙂 Much of life on Earth owes it’s existence and sustenance to this little fella and his species.

Thanks Cee! 🙂 – supposed to have a very calmative effect on us too! Reduces stress levels and helps sleep.

Um, unless you have different rhododendrons than we do, those aren’t rhododendrons. They are pretty, but they are some other bush.

Sorry, MY header said rhododendrons. Lavender. Now THAT I believe. One of those plants I wish I could grow.

Hi Marilyn, for a while i tried to keep up with Cee’s flower of the day by posting the same flower as she did – that did not last too long! 😉 Now i have Cee’s link and flower at the top of my post but title mine with with the flower i am able to give a picture of! Sorry for the confusion 🙂
Lavenders, once they get established, are tough hardy little buggers and cope quite well with hot dry conditions and cooler wet ones… i don’t know how they’d go in snow as we just don’t have the stuff where i live! 🙂
