Flower of the Day – April 28, 2017 – Wild Orchids

Cee’s Flower of the Day – April 28, 2017 – Tulip

My home state of Western Australia has some of the most amazing wild orchids. It is home to the only known orchids that flower entirely UNDERGROUND! Sadly these are very rare and hard to spot (you have to know where to dig and dig very carefully!) If you want to see one or would like more information look up Rhizanthella gardneri.

For my Flower Of The Day i caught these two above-ground beauties in a local bushland park that has been undisturbed from it’s natural state since before colonisation of Australia.

The flowers are quite small compared to the usual varieties but if you click on the pics they open up in a new window. Click on the new pic for the full effect and see their full beauty.
