Does ANYONE like their voting system?

Just done my ‘Civic Duty’ and voted for my state election – i need a drink!

Before i voted i TRIED to find information from the various parties registered to put up candidates in my electorate so i could see who each of them were giving their preferences to (we don’t have a first past the post system here). Turns out i’m not as good of an internet researcher as i thought i was – either that or the parties just don’t want anyone to know who they’ve done deals with???

If you think your system stinks and there has to be a better way to determine who gets to rule you for the next 3, 4 or 5 years you might want to check out how other countries do it and that might give you more appreciation for the system you’ve got (or you may find one that seems pretty good even – who knows?)

Either way in my research i came across a humourous article that describes my voting system ‘simply’. Hope it amuses you too.

  1. Voting systems seem to cater to what pleases the politicians – who cares what the voters want?! With only a few exceptions (like our most recent, for example), it hardly makes much difference which party wins anyway.

But at least some of us get to ring in at the polls. I’m always stunned to find out how many folks don’t. I hope American voters have *finally* learned their lesson. NEVER rely on the pre-election pollsters – get thee to the voting booth!

  2. Very True Madelyn!

Cynically, i would have said that regarding learning the lesson, voters have a less than 4 year memory and will make the same mistakes next election they did this time (and the time before….)

…but maybe, just maybe this time…?

Saw a meme today that fitted perfectly for your case and my case voting today…

“It’s not dumb politicians we need to worry about….

… it’s the dumb VOTERS that vote them In!”

Hope your meeting went as you hoped today?
