There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. ( 1 Cor 10 13)

Discuss amongst yourselves. 🙂

  1. i will likely join this conversation when im more awake and have less of a headache.

but…i thought it kinda funny that you posted a verse from the same book and chapter as the one i just changed “a good word” to on my blog.

    g’day mate 😉

  2. It is tempting to think that because the Australian cricket team did so poorly in the World Twenty(20) tournment, beaten by West Indian, they will have problems dealing with England in the Ashes Test Series.

As a young man I never meet the temptation I would not give in to. 🙂

As I have grown older I have either learned, or more often be forced by circumstances, to have more self control.

For example, as a diabetic I have no choice but avoid overindulging in food, or having any alcohol.

Waking up in a hotel room, minus my wallet, with no recollection of how I got there, or who with, cured any desire I had for durgs.

I can’t think of anything I would call a “vice” that I now indulge in.

I do hope however that I will always have the desire to “lose control”, but the common sense to know when it’s appropriate.

Question – how do you define what is a vice?

I don’t consider sex outside of marriage a vice, unless it is with someone who is. 🙂

  3. Tam – very sorry to hear about the headache 😦

You keep ‘shadowing’ me, doncha? Cut that Out! 😉

Joseph – wanna giant pancake?? 😉

Ed – Apparently my valiant 20/20 team were overcome by the weight of their new paypackets and could not focus properly! 🙂

Things will be dramatically different against the ‘Old Enemy’ in 4 weeks time, 5 day tests are all-together different to the fast version of a game and the approach is different also.

Aussies don’t like losing at sport but they are getting more used to it lately 😉 however they absolutely cannot even consider losing to England. Every man in the side would gladly sell his soul not to lose the Ashes.

As for temptation and my Quote: i find it interesting that Paul promises Christians that any temptation they have is nothing more than all men ‘suffer’ but that God gives temptations to them not above what they can bear and at the same time gives them a way ‘out’ of temptation.

It just being up to us to find the way and overcome the evil.

Bacon can be considered a ‘vice’ 😉

    Moderation in all things.

What is the definition of a vice??

Something who’s Jaws put the hard squeeze on you. 😉

Wouldn’t you love to be a guest at an Elvis Costello/Diana K dinner party? 🙂

  4. Wouldn’t you love to be a guest at an Elvis Costello/Diana K dinner party?

I would rather be the host of an Ed Dyer/Diana Krall dinner party, for two.

There is that temptation again, she is married.

An article in the Guardian states:

“Despite this setback, however, Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association have announced a new deal that could see a player earn as much as £736,000 in the coming season.”

  5. I think this is complete TRUTH and impossible to deny.

In denying it we stumble, all too often, and then want to say we couldn’t help it. I’m learning, I hope, we can always help it, if we will be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger…

    Hard stuff, that.

  6. It can be hard, Sis.

In the Scripture quoted i can’t see Him promising that the way out of temptation is ever to be ‘easy’ as seems to be the ‘preferred’ option nowadays amongst most of our (pop-a-pill) Western Society.

Sometimes we are the ones who make it harder than it need be through a lack of understanding of ourselves, as well as the situation and the way out. 😦

Hoping you are not finding much temptation in life lately! Other than to follow Him of course 🙂

  7. You know, I’ve found it doesn’t get much easier the older we get. The temptations just change. I really do think we’ll be learning more and more deeply until the day we’re out of this body of flesh and can finally understand completely. Yes, some things have gotten much easier to overcome, yet other character defects tend to appear which must be examined.

In pursuit of the holiness of God.
