Are you feeling ‘Lucky’?

Lucky Number
(Udy, udy, udy, udy etc…)

I never used to cry ’cause I was all alone
For me, myself and I is all I’ve ever known
I never felt the need to have a hand to hold
In everything I do I take complete control
That’s where I’m coming from
My Lucky Number’s one

I’ve everthing I need to keep me satisfied
There’s nothing you can do to make me change my mind
I’m having so much fun
My Lucky Number’s one
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!

Ay ay ay ay ay…
I now detect an alien vibration here
There’s something in the air besides the atmosphere
The object of the action is becoming clear
An imminent attack upon my HEART I fear
The evidence is strong
My Lucky Number’s wrong
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!

Something tells me my Lucky Number’s gonna be changing soon
Something tells me Lucky Number’s gonna be ow-e-ow-e-ow-e-ow-e-ow-e-ow-e…

You certainly do have a strange effect on me
I never thought that I could feel the way I feel
There’s something in your eyes gives me a wild idea
I never want to be apart from You my dear
I guess it must be true
My Lucky Number’s two

This rearrangement suits me now I must confess
The number one was dull and number two is best
I wanna stay with you
My Lucky Number’s two
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!

Number two… Number two…

Lovich/Chappell 1978

If you can sing along with this there’s a fair chance you were born in the 60’s! 🙄 (or even earlier? 😯

This song played on my radio today and took me back – a LONG way. It’s by Lene Lovich.

It also appeared in a completely new way to me now ( as so many older songs do these days)

I think it is a great Analogy for the way SOME people grow up…

only ever considering themselves and placing themselves as ‘Number One’! ( As can a child)

But then we feel a ‘change in the air’ (in the Spirit) and become aware of Another One – a Greater and Higher ‘One’. And suddenly we’re Number Two ( NO toilet Jokes, PLEASE!!!) – Number Two – along wih everyone else!

  1. Hey! I’m the first to comment! So, I’m not ALWAYS late, am I? 🙂

I love the oldies tune, but I don’t think I’ve heard this one. The tune I have in mind right now is ‘In Your Eyes.’ Don’t know what year it came out, though. 🙂

I thought the lucky number is 9 (as in lucky 9?) 🙂

This was a CUTE song. I am with Mandy too on this….you and your numbers make me smile. 😀

Great thoughts Love. You’re right. The eyes of our youth, or the immature, can only see inward…at “one”. So glad I’m beginning to grow up.

  4. Well, I was born before the sixtys, but don’t remember hearing this one. The Beatles were the first ones I really remembered listening to much.

As to your closing remarks in the post though, I was reminded of a Henry Nouwen meditation I just read a bit ago. I haven’t read a lot of his works yet, but like what I have, and thought you might too (?).

Hopefully you’ll find this relevant to this topic?
re: “Losing and Gaining Our Lives”

“The great paradox of life is that those who lose their lives will gain them. This paradox becomes visible in very ordinary situations. If we cling to our friends, we may lose them, but when we are nonpossessive in our relationships, we will make many friends. When fame is what we seek and desire, it often vanishes as soon as we acquire it, but when we have no need to be known, we might be remembered long after our deaths. When we want to be in the center, we easily end up on the margins, but when we are free enough to be wherever we must be, we find ourselves often in the center.
Giving away our lives for others is the greatest of all human arts. This will gain us our lives.”

  5. What’s the tune? Can you find it out there, somewhere? I was born in the sixties, but do not recognize the words…but then I don’t remember listening to much on the radio until the 70’s. It was always church music at home, Dad being the music minister and Mom the pianist..

But I do get your point:

But then we feel a ‘change in the air’ (in the Spirit) and become aware of Another One – a Greater and Higher ‘One’. And suddenly we’re Number Two

I like this position best – He’s so much better at leading me down the straight path, I tend to veer off on my own. 😉

  6. I guess it was slack of me not to place the youtube link huh? (there is a youtube link for EVERYTHING in the WORLD – did you know that?? 😉 )

So I ‘ve Fixed it! 🙂

This was a near-Hit in my Country in my teenage years – it was ‘quirky’ (i like quirky’) 😉 and the singer was ‘Kooky’ (some kooky i like – some not-so-much) 🙂

My point was more the ‘New’ Interpretation i was able to place over this song and to help us all remember that once (and perhaps sometimes even now) we put ourselves first when we quite simply should ‘grow up’! (Yes Mandy – that one was in honour of you!)

People can attach ‘Luck’ to a range of numbers My Mum believes Seven to be ‘Lucky’ – the Chinese believe 8 brings good fortune – which is why their Olympic Games start 08/08/08!) Sherma showed 9 similarly has Luck associated with it (I personally see 9 as the number of ‘Completion’ or Entirely Perfected and that could be seen as ‘lucky’)

I am not suggesting we all start to bet on the Number 2 – quite the reverse Number One is the One that we ‘want’ (ooh-ooh-ooh, Honey!)

Ok – when i start humming songs from Grease it’s time to stop! 🙂

  9. That was a pretty freaky video. I thought it was Boy George for a minute. 🙂

The only hit song I can think of with that is all numbers is Gloria Estefan’s “1,2,3”

I have never been a “two” for more then six months. That is the longest any women can tolerate me.

  10. Hey Debs – we wuz over at Bran’s Place and i learned you gave Tam a farting lesson??? There is only room for one expert in the Hodge Household in that area apparently – G’Day, In Worship! 🙂

Ed – Lene was pretty much a one Hit wonder over here.. (this song was ‘IT” ) Boy George on the other hand 🙄

Since ‘surrendering’ my Atheism and recognising that i am NOT the most important thing that exists in my Universe (am no longer always and only #1) i find that it is a most liberating experience.

I won’t pretend that i can always shut out the mind’s desire to be #1 but i am better able to see when, by doing so, that i am the one who is being wrong and that it is really the True #1 that is Alive in my life who deserves to be at the ‘Helm’ – while i can perform a far better role as ‘First Mate’ – or Number Two (Thoughts of Dr Evil!).

Surrendering the Will and living in Humility to One who is Totally Trustworthy and deserving of All Faith as it’s originating Source has rewards the ego can never duplicate. We may never Understand God Fully – but we can know and trust Him Totally within our own understanding and Being.

I would NEVER recommend we subjugate ourselves over to an ‘significant other (Human)’ in our lives – serve them to the best of our ability perhaps, but i am talking about a MUCH deeper understanding concerning the song lyrics above!

It saddens me that those who do not have a Faith in God will never experience this for themsleves (although a kind of experience can be had when we totally serve a fellow human being and feel the thrill that ‘losing’ our self-importance in favour of truly serving a ‘higher authority’, for a moment, can have.)

You ever felt that ‘Rush’, Ed?

    Like

  11. Love, I have had moments of shear unadulterated joy so intense I thought I might explode. I can’t compare my “rush” to anyone else’s. Just as no one else can know exactley how I felt.

Joy is something I experience everyday, although when my bursitis kicks in it is a lot harder to feel joyful.

Helping people does also give me a rush.

It has been a long time since I have really felt alone.

    Like

  12. Intense Joy is not the exclusive province of those who profess that God Exists in their lives.

I also felt the feeling that i could not contain all the joy within me before i came to see the possibility of an Infinte Connected Consciousness.

That a Love exists that is far greater than anything i alone could create but am able to ‘tap into’ from a place ‘other’ than just ‘me’ i am now aware is evidence for God – It is this Joy that i resonate with at the moments we refer to above and infuses in me whenever i feel i have served a fellow human Being/part of God. 🙂

  13. Love, I agree that it is important to feel we are a part of someting bigger.

It is clear from your blog, and Mandy’s and Tam’s and Brandy’s that faith provides that sense of connectedness(? – not sure if that is a real word).

The common thread in all your blogs is love. It makes me happy to be a part of that connectedness.
Even if I see the source(?) of that connection to be my fellow man and not God.

  14. Individuals share similar desires – we can ‘relate’ to others of our species – there is a deep primal need to feel connected to a group of like minds.

That was essential to pre-human survival and lives in us (in our psyche) still.

I feel that something Greater underlies all of that 🙂

    Love Lives!

It is fresh and new today (and each day) and existed long before man first walked upright.

The Human ego lives ‘outside’ of it (or pretends to: it believes the real Truth but is fearful of it – Fearful of becoming ‘lost’ in it’s vastness and timelesness hence it commands all our obedience – that we put our faith in it, instead of the greater, higher, power/force).

At least that’s one way of looking at it 😉

  20. I’ve been sort of ‘out of all this’ for a couple of days, but just wanted to pop back in to say the video was probably even more ‘kooky’ to me because I have no sound with it ={!

For some reason, suddenly, I’m not getting any of the normal ‘computer’ start up sounds or audio with YouTube or another online video newscast I subscribe to??? I went through the whole ‘troubleshooting’ thing with YouTube for ‘no audio’ and everything checked out to work (but it still doesn’t! Ugh!)

My volume icon also disappeared from my start up menu as well. But, getting into other volume control areas shows nothing’s muted and everything is enabled and running properly???? We’ve checked the speaker connections too. Some things like iTunes library, online radio teachings, and audio checks play fine.

Sooo, I ‘m hoping ‘Love’ should be able to provide technical as well as emotional support =)?
I’ll take it from anybody at this point rather than try to call the ‘help’ numbers that never really do, and take forever to find out that they don’t ={{{!!!

Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulder,

There is never a doubt that i am Blessed! – You are quite right Michelle Perth IS quite a Beautiful City – and very popular too it seems for it is now considered one of the most expensive cities in the world in which to live (in the top 5!) Mostly due to house prices and foodstuffs. I love the lifestyle though.

And all the beauty around me constantly reminds me of my three favourite redheads, of course 🙂

  30. This is back to your reply quite a ways back in the comments by now.

I didn’t get your email for some reason.

Another interesting thing about my computer sound problem is that when I log off and go to my husband’s log in, everything works fine (his volume control is still in the start menu taskbar). There have been other changes in my own start taskbar too, and I have no idea why).

So, you can try to send your email again, and I’ll see if your suggestions help.

Otherwise, I’ll be calling my local ‘computer guy’ tomorrow I guess.

    Thanks for trying,

  31. Hi Kaz, resent the mail to the email in your pic’s id. But that last piece of info you gave virtually assures me that what i suggested will not work! 😦

It could be something similar (software – file corrupted or it could be a virus – or it could be something much simpler like an accidental change of settings for your user name)

Trouble with modern computers is there are so many different ways things can be modified to affect certain functions – unless someone is actually on the computer trying different things it is hard to know exactly what to try – but my email suggestion is of no use if Hub’s log-on has normal sound.

You could try removing ‘you’ as a user and then adding another you as this mivht return the settings to the original ( default ) format? – this might lose you some ways you now have set up your computer but you can always return the ‘new you’ to the old ways as you did initially.

As i say – not being ‘there’ i’m working blind here 🙂 Good Luck.
