Crash! Boom!! Bang!!!

Roxette

My papa told me to stay out of trouble

when youve found your man, make sure hes for real!.

Ive learned that nothing really lasts forever

I sleep with the scars I wear that wont heal

they wont heal.

Cos every time I seem to fall in love

 crash! boom! bang!

I find the heart but then I hit the wall

crash! boom! bang!

thats the call, thats the game and the pain stays the same.

I’m walking down this empty road to nowhere

I pass by the houses and blocks I once knew.

My mama told me not to mess with sorrow

but I always did, and lord, I still do

Im still breaking the rules

I kick it up, I kick it down.

Cos every time I seem to fall in love

 crash! boom! bang!

I find the heart but then I hit the wall

crash! boom! bang!

thats my real middle-name

it has always been the same

thats the call, thats the game and the pain stays the same.

I still feel the heat (slowly fallin from the sky)

and the taste of the kissing

shattered by rain (comin tumblin from behind)

and the wild holy war.

(I kick it up, I kick it down)

and every time I seem to fall in love

crash! boom! bang!

I find the roses dying on the floor

crash! boom! bang!

thats the call, thats the game and the play stays the same

thats my real middle-name

it has always been the same.

Oh yea oh yea oh yea uh-huh

been the same, been the same

it has always been the same.

Roxette – Crash Boom Bang! Album

Every time i listen to this Album – Roxette: Don’t Bore Us – Get to the Chorus!-  i just fall in love with it all over again.. These two (Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle  – Sweed-ish dontcha know? 😉  ) are just Perfect together – they KNOW REAL LOVE! – And I should know! 😉

18 songs on this ‘best of’ collection – you do the Math! Their TWO number One Hits were ‘The Look’ (Number 3 on the tracklist) and ‘It Must Have Been Love’ (Number 7 track!). Track number One was not ‘well known’ to all – “June Afternoon”!

Every song contains Him – and the Heartbreak that falling out of Love can bring to us, His Children on this planet.

The music and harmonies are magical, spiritual and just SING to your heart – and beyond.

You could do a LOT worse than listen to this.

  1. Those are great lyrics. Roxette has written some very good songs.

One of the most beautiful and haunting songs I know is “Albatross” written by Judy Collins. I think of it as more of a poem.

    Albatross

The lady comes to the gate dressed in lavender and leather
Looking North to the sea she finds the weather fine
She hears the steeple bells ringing through the orchard
    All the way from town
    She watches seagulls fly
Silver on the ocean stitching through the waves
    The edges of the sky

Many people wander up the hills
    From all around you
Making up your memories and thinking they have found you
They cover you with veils of wonder as if you were a bride
Young men holding violets are curious to know if you have cried
    And tell you why
    And ask you why
    Any way you answer

Lace around the collars of the blouses of the ladies
Flowers from a Spanish friend of the family
The embroid’ry of your life holds you in
And keeps you out but you survive
    Imprisoned in your bones
Behind the isinglass windows of your eyes

And in the night the iron wheels rolling through the rain
Down the hills through the long grass to the sea
And in the dark the hard bells ringing with pain
    Come away alone

Even now by the gate with you long hair blowing
And the colors of the day that lie along your arms
You must barter your life to make sure you are living
And the crowd that has come
    You give them the colors
And the bells and wind and the dream

Will there never be a prince who rides along the sea and the mountains
Scattering the sand and foam into amethyst fountains
Riding up the hills from the beach in the long summer grass
Holding the sun in his hands and shattering the isinglass?

Day and night and day again and people come and go away forever
While the shining summer sea dances in the glass of your mirror
While you search the waves for love and your visions for a sign
The knot of tears around your throat is crystallizing into your design

And in the night the iron wheels rolling through the rain
Down the hills through the long grass to the sea
And in the dark the hard bells ringing with pain
    Come away alone
    Come away alone…with me.

  2. I’m not familiar with either of the two songs previously mentioned, but it seems the lyrics are expressing ‘disillusionment’ with love (?). Maybe I didn’t ‘read deep enough’ into the second, but assume that was why it was noted in response. I totally agree that love among humans can be a painful and risky venture, but there are a couple of songs that I revert to when those disappointments come. One is very ‘old’ and has a history with me going back to a time of my questioning God’s reality. It provided an answer for me then (with my ‘adjustment’ of the lyrics at the end =) and still speaks truth to me even today in relationship to both Him and others.

The second song I heard only recently, and though the ‘style’ isn’t one of my usual ‘preferences’ the message is totally relevant to ’embracing the pain’ and ‘taking the risks’ of living and loving in this fallen world. If Christ hadn’t, what hope would we have?

    The Rose

Some say love it is a river
    that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed

Some say love it is a hunger
    an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
    and you it’s only seed

It’s the heart afraid of breaking
    that never learns to dance
It’s the dream afraid of waking
    that never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
    who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
    that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
    Just remember in the winter
    far beneath the bitter snows
    lies the seed
    that with the Son’s love
    in the spring
    becomes the rose

    Anyway

You can spend your whole life buildin’
    Somethin’ from nothin’
One storm can come and blow it all away
    Build it anyway

    You can chase a dream
That seems so out of reach
And you know it might not ever come your way
    Dream it anyway

    [chorus]
God is great, but sometimes life ain’t good
When I pray it doesn’t always turn out
    like I think it should
    But I do it anyway
    I do it anyway

This world’s gone crazy and it’s hard to believe
That tomorrow will be better than today
    Believe it anyway
You can love someone with all your heart
    For all the right reasons
An in a moment they can choose to walk away
    love ’em anyway

You can pour your soul out singin
    a song you believe in
but tomorrow they’ll forget you ever sang
    Sing it anyway!

Yeah I sing, I dream, I love anyway!

  3. Laz! Hi! 🙂 Long time no see….

Your last song reminded me of The Paradoxical Commandments, see link below:

    http://www.paradoxicalcommandments.com/

and then for good measure read ‘Everybody’s free to wear Sunscreen’:
    http://condellpark.com/kd/sunscreen4.htm

As for the original song, Superficially it tells a story of love and the pain of loving the wrong one (or thing).

I see a deeper message within it – the way to end the pain – the Way open to any one of us – to A Love that is perfect and never leads to pain… unless we choose to walk away from it, or lose Faith in it, or find the challenge of being Truly Loved too much for us as ‘weak’ or unworthy humans.

It is a love i Aspire towards as it envelops me completely. 🙂

  4. So, how did you find me again? I think my comment was posted while you were ‘away’, so was already out of your ‘recent comments’ section by the time you returned.

In any event, thanks for your response and comment back. Those ‘paradoxical commandments’ sure do sound to be the basis for the songwriting of ‘Anyway’. I don’t know how I’ve missed reading them before, so thanks for sharing them. I definitely find a lot of wisdom there I can relate to, though rarely ‘pleasant’ in practice.

Those concepts (doing the right thing no matter the consequences) remind me of a message I heard this AM about suffering injustice and seeing it as an opportunity to better relate to Christ. The speaker (Alistair Beg on “Truth for Life” — I love his Scottish accent =) was coming against the pervasive attitude of many American Christians to think that Romans 8:28 assures them of lifelong happiness. At the end he pointedly asked,”Where did we get a Christianity where Jesus is the only one dying… or bearing a cross?” That concept didn’t come from the New Testament!

I think it is in willingly (though ‘joyfully’ is still a challenge for sure!)accepting mistreatment for laying down our lives for others that we come to ‘know Christ’ most.

Yet, as the ‘sunscreen’ article also stated, there does finally come a time to stop ‘putting up with people who are reckless with your heart’. I think that only comes though when it is clear you can’t continue ‘devaluing yourself’ by allowing such abuse and still have any love to offer them back (i.e. ‘love your neighbor as yourself’?). That’s a tough point to reach though, and definitely one requiring a lot of fervent prayer and clear Biblical guidance.

Nonetheless, the rewards for ‘loving anyway’ will be worth the painful ‘challenges’ in the end (the true meaning of Romans 8:28 I believe).

  5. Laz 🙂

I do try to keep track of my ‘threads’ though not always with success 😉 You were right – your name had slipped by my most recent commented list but i saw the words to The Rose (a song i adore and sing along to every time i hear it) and had to reply 🙂

Romans 8:28-31 WOW! How powerful are those words? What promise and hope they offer – I am in your debt for though i have read them before it was more of just a ‘scan’ and they had not ‘hit home’ to me before i read them after reading your post.

I have not heard of Alistair Beg (Scots accents can sometimes be impenetrable to us english speakers but yes – they can also be so musical and beautiful and ‘bonnie’) but I am with you on his take – we are to somehow be thankful for ALL things, not only those that bring us joy and happiness because we would have asked for them ourselves, but those that bring trial and difficulty that we would have asked him not to place before us; that we work to overcome in His Spirit, for it is in such things that we increase our wisdom and love for Him if we are able to see truly what He has in store for our future growth as His Children.

It is in bearing both the good and the ‘bad’ with a Joyful Heart, full of Faith, that we truly are In Spirit, and not in our selves. I have had some truly wonderful moments at times when things seemed to be going against ‘me’ when in fact they were helping me see His Truth and my own deceits.

I do not believe we should ever joyfully accept ‘mis’ treatment at the hands of others. God’s children were never made to be ‘happy doormats’ for others to abuse and wipe their dirty feet all over. I believe we are required however, to love ALL humanity equally and do for those who abuse us as we would for those we love and who love us back – this is NOT easy for a human will to accept. The human will must be overcome however, that His Will be Done on Earth.

WE should accept willingly those trials He sends us always, in whatever form they appear to us, but we are not meant to suffer unendingly; every trial is an opportunity for us to show how the One God Lives in and through us and how, by following His Wisdom and showing His Love to others – in a way THEY can ‘accept’ – we can, through Grace and Works, overcome any and all difficulties placed in our Way to Spiritual Growth and our own betterment on earth, that we be able to stand in Heaven as a worthy adult and a Child no longer; Not Equal to Christ, but as His Brother or Sister, equal to all who have Truly followed His Way. 🙂

  11. It is a Wonderful Dream ladies but there is not a chance it will ever happen, and here is why…

I am happy to visit “yer wonerful countree”.
It would be a delight to stay a while in Beautiful Oregon with frineds as dear as you and yours.
I would be considerate of sitting astride a donkey as he plodded his way around and possibly even into a church…

But when, as i am positive would inevtably happen, Brent or soemone else with a decidedly ‘dodgy’ sense of humour yells out: “That’s a Fine Looking Ass you got there, Love!” i would loose it completely and be rolling around on the floor holding my sides and any pretence at humility or ceremony would vanish totally! 😉

    It Ain’t gonna happen – ok? 🙂

Darla – always share the love (and a good laugh!) 😀

I do not like concluding with negativity so – can anyone spot the ‘problem’ with me riding into town on a CAMEL?? 🙂

(I make it abundantly clear though i am NO admirer of the type of Islam that leads people to Sept 11 type actions or those of the, for want of better words, malicious, hate-filled, morons who are calling for the execution of a ‘western’ teacher in Sudan for the heinous crime of letting her class of schoolkids call a teddy bear mascot ‘Muhammad’!!! – A camel is merely a form of transport appropriate to sandy locations such as the middle east or my home. WA is the largest exporter of camels in the world, to the best of my knowledge – they are disease free, being introduced under strict quarantine laws, and going ‘native’ in our vast and rich desert areas have ‘gone forth and multiplied’ to radical and biblical proportions! 🙂 )
