Water….. and Rock!

Water Of Love – Dire Straits

High and dry in the long hot day
Lost and lonely in every way
Got the flats all around me sky up above
I need a little water of love.

I’ve been too long lonely and my heart feels pain
Crying out for some soothing rain
I believe I have taken enough
I need a little water of love

Water of love deep in the ground
But there ain’t no water here to be found
Some day baby when the river runs free
It’ll carry that water of love to me

There’s a bird in a tree sitting so high
Just a-waiting for me to die
If I don’t get some water soon
I’ll be dead and gone in the afternoon

Once I had a woman I could call my own
Once I had a woman now my woman she’s gone
Once there was a river now there’s a stone
You know it’s evil when you’re living alone

Water of love deep in the ground
But there ain’t no water here to be found
Some day baby when the river runs free
It’ll carry that water of love to me

SOLID ROCK!

AUSSIE ! ROCK! (Uluru!) (93 = 12!)

 Solid Rock – Goanna

Out here nothin’ changes, not in a hurry anyway
You feel the endlessness with the comin’ of the light o’ day
We’re talkin’ about a chosen place
You wouldn’t sell it in a marketplace, well
Well just a minute now

Standing on solid rock
Standing on sacred ground
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin’ down the line
Right down the line

Round about the dawn o’ time, When dreamin’ all began
A croud o’ people came
Well they were looking for their promised land
Were running from the heart of darkness
Searching for the heart o’ light
Well it was their paradise

But they were standin’ on – solid rock
Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change were blowing cold that night
Oh

They were standin’ on the shore one day, Saw the white sails in the sun
Wasn’t long before they felt the sting, white man, white law, white gun
Don’t tell me that it’s justified, ’cause somewhere, someone lied
Yeah well someone lied, someone lied, genocide
Well someone lied, oh, ahh

And now you’re standing on – solid rock
Standing o-on a sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin’ down the li-ine

Solid rock, Standing on sacred ground
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowing down the line
Solid rock, Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowing down the line
Oh-oh-oh no, NO-O

  1. That was a great song and video. I had not heard of the song or the group.

I also did like Dire Straits.

When I think of the “Aussie” rock bands that I have heard the one that stands out is Midnight Oil.

With that tall rather imposing lead singer. Lots of power and passion.

  5. ED – nice to see your comments as always Sir. The ‘Oils’ with front-man Peter Garret (an ‘opposition’ politician now who may soon be our environment minister – what a BLAST that could be huh? 😉 ) is still one of our most succesful music ‘exports’ along with the likes of AC/DC, INXS, Little River Band, Air Supply, Kylie Minogue, and Ben Lee. ( see if you can listen to ‘We’re ALL in this together’ of hois Awake is the new sleep album – is free on his website.

Money for nothing was Dire Straits SONG – Sting may have ‘covered’ it with Mark Knopfler sometime but it is Mark’s song all the way, baby! 🙂

I loved the clip when it was released in the 80’s and still love the song and group today – see if you can get hold of their debut album – Sultans of Swing – exceptional! 🙂

  7. Ohhh Geee..
    ALL time fave???
Tricky… i like LOTS of music/bands and i ‘changed’ over time of course 😉

    Right NOW you mean???

    I would probably say….

Toss up between the Beatles ( i have the most albums of their music – mostly pre-1966 stuff – Rubber Soul was my first ALbum ever bought – Norwegian Wood, Baby You Can Drive My Car and Lady Madonna!) and the Eagles – Love the Hotel California Album and track – can NEVER hear that song enough. 🙂 The Guitar riff and drums – Awesome!

Doiing some overdue housework this weekend i found some long lost tapes i made (copied from a record library) in the 80’s. One Tape had Suzanne Vega on one side and David and David (Boom Town) on the other and those two albums are just superb, containing tracks that just keep growing on you and into you – getting deeper and deeper. One track of Suzanne’s (I think it might be titled ‘The Soldier (and the Queen?)’ just truly knocks me down and blows me away every time i hear it. 🙂

So Who’s your fave music by? 😉

  8. Hey Bob,
Nice blog. I believe Sting added vocals to Money for Nothing. There’s nothing wrong with that. I guess reflecting on my sonic childhood isn’t a bad thing.

My fave music is “Sleater-Kinney”, but I can enjoy most anything, given the right time and place.

    Gordon – ( God Ron ) – 26 + 47 = 73 = 10 = 1 (I-9) nice.
    Matthew – (Matt hew)- 54 (love)+ 36 = 90 = 9 – Perfected
    Sumner – 90 = 9 – Perfected 😉
    Total 1 9 9 = 19 = 10 = 1

  12. Tam,

What I admired about Sting was his willingness to try something new. I was actually a little disappointed when the Police announced they were going to perform again.

It seems to me these “reunion” gigs are too often done just to make money.

I like their first album the best, “Outlandos d’Amour”. Sting’s song “Every Breath You Take” is one of the spookest songs I know.

I thought Sting’s “Bring On The Night” was he best work.
